You Learn Something new Everyday

Liam and I were on our (almost) daily walk this afternoon when we passed a lady that we've passed a few other times and smiled at. We've always smiled at each other, and she's looked at Liam, but we've never stopped.

Today, as we approached each other, she asked if Liam was sleeping. I said yes, turned so he faced her, and pulled down the side of the front pack so she could see his little cherubic face.  She looked at him a moment, and then gently drew a cross on his forehead with her thumb.

She then explained that Mexicans draw crosses on babies like that, so they don't get sick. Because babies get colic when they're stared at, so if someone is staring at him, you must let them cross him.

I found it amusing as Dr. H said that colic was to make a mother's milk increase because they're going through a growth spurt.

  2. AW...interesting how different people have different beliefs. :-) I think it was sweet of her.
Ha...I always thought colic was from foods the mom ate...or because the baby didn't burp enough after breastfeeding.
    HUGS! :-)
